Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity - Year C - June 15, 2025

 Trinity Sunday Year C celebrates the mystery of the Holy Trinity. The readings help us understand God’s wisdom, love, and truth through the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

• Wisdom’s Role in Creation: The first reading from Proverbs speaks of Wisdom present at the creation of the world. This shows the involvement of God’s wisdom in all creation.

6th Sunday of Easter - Year C - May 25, 2025

Easter (Old English: Ēostre) is a Christian feast and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary as described in the New Testament. Easter is preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of Lent is called Holy Week, and it contains Maundy Thursday, commemorating Maundy and the Last Supper, as well as Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. The First Council of Nicaea (325) established the date of Easter as the first Sunday after the full moon (the Paschal Full Moon) following the northern hemisphere's vernal equinox. Ecclesiastically, the equinox is reckoned to be on March 21 (even though the equinox occurs, astronomically speaking, on March 20 in most years), and the "Full Moon" is not necessarily the astronomically correct date. The date of Easter therefore varies between March 22 and April 25. Eastern Christianity bases its calculations on the Julian calendar who’s March 21 corresponds, during the 21st century, to April 3 in the Gregorian calendar, in which the celebration of Easter therefore varies between April 4 and May 8.
 
Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover by much of its symbolism, as well as by its position in the calendar. 5th Sunday of Lent - Year C - April 6, 2025

 The 5th Sunday of Lent Year C highlights God’s mercy and our journey in faith. The readings guide us to reflect on new beginnings and leaving behind our old ways.

• First Reading – Isaiah 43:16-21: God, who controls nature and armies, urges to forget the past and see His new works: paths in wilderness, rivers in deserts, providing for His chosen people, made to praise Him.
• Responsorial Psalm – Psalm 126: The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.

  When the Lord restored Zion, our joy was like a dream, filled with laughter and praise. Nations recognized His great deeds. We pray for continued restoration and joyful harvest.
• Second Reading – Philippians 3:8-14: Everything is considered a loss compared to knowing Christ. Righteousness comes from faith, not law. Striving to know Christ’s power and share His sufferings, we press on towards eternal life with Him.

On the 2nd Sunday of Lent Year C, the readings invite us to reflect on faith, transformation, and God’s promises. These themes help us to grow closer to God during Lent.

• God’s Promise to Abram: God promises Abram descendants as numerous as the stars. This shows God’s faithfulness and His plan for our salvation.

• Covenant with Abram: God makes a covenant with Abram, ensuring his future and the land for his descendants. This covenant is a sign of God’s commitment to His people.

• Faith and Righteousness: Abram’s faith is counted as righteousness. This teaches us the importance of faith in our relationship with God.

1st Sunday of Lent - Year C - March 9, 2025

Lent is a short season of six weeks intended to prepare us for the great celebrations of Easter. Lent comes from the old Anglo-Saxon and Old German words for spring marked by days that lengthen. The idea of penitence and fasting during Lent may have begun in earlier, hungrier times as a means of spiritualizing real shortages of food at this time of year. 
 
The 1st Sunday of Lent Year C begins our journey through Lent. This is a time to reflect on our faith and grow closer to God.

• Faith and Confession: Romans 10:9-10 emphasizes the importance of confessing our faith in Jesus. This theme reminds us to openly profess our belief in Christ during Lent.

• Temptation and Resistance: In Luke 4:1-13, Jesus is tempted by the devil but resists. This teaches us to stand strong against temptations in our lives.

• God’s Help in Trials: Jesus’ time in the desert shows that God is with us in our struggles. We can rely on God’s help when we face challenges.

• Scripture as Guidance: Jesus uses Scripture to counter the devil’s temptations. This shows the power of God’s word in guiding us and protecting us.
