SONG LINE UP SUGGESTIONS (courtesy of bukaspalad)

Apr 24, 2011 (Easter Sunday)

Liturgical color: White;

In selecting songs for Easter, I do encourage you to choose songs that have the word Alleluia/Aleluya in the lyrics, coz hallelujah is so characteristic of this “solemnity of solemnities.” Hallelujah expresses so much festiveness it should be maximized.

Entrance: Magsiawit sa Panginoon (Isidro & Que)

Sequence: Victimae Paschali Laudes (Wipo) You may sing this up to and including May 1, 2011, the 2nd Sunday of Easter.

Suggested Mass Line-up for April 17, 2011

Ideally you should kick off at some place other than the actual Church, ‘cause you’re gonna have a procession. Wherever that place is, the Mass actually starts there, not at the Church. And have your palms blessed there.

Reading at the blessing of palms: In Matthew 21:1-11, Jesus instructs two apostles to go get the donkey that they shall find in the next village. These two do so, and put their cloaks on top of the donkey. Riding that, Jesus triumphantly enters Jerusalem, as people lay their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches and lay them down and sing “Hosanna to the Son of David.”

Strictly speaking, dito lang talaga dapat binebless ang palaspas. Ideally dapat walang blessing ng palaspas sa ibang Misa other than the First Mass, or rather, the Mass with the procession. Kaso nga lang not all people are morning persons d ba, kaya minsan binebless pa rin ni Father ang mga palaspas sa iba ding Misa.

Songs for the Procession:

Filipino:
1. Hosanna sa Anak ni David
2. Mabuhay ang Anak ni David

English: Hosanna to the Son of David

Please note that this section/procession occurs only once during the entire day, even if you have multiple Masses. Like for instance, only before the first Mass. All other Masses after that Mass, wala ng prusisyon.

In the first Mass, please consider the above as your entrance song to acknowledge that the Mass did not begin at the Church, but at the place where the people congregated. Pagdating ninyo sa simbahan, First Reading na kaagad.

For all other Masses during the day, the Hosannas shall serve as your actual entrance song, and the common way of the order of the parts of the Mass follows.

Readings:

1R: Isaiah 50:4-7 I have not rebelled, and I have not turned back. I gave My back to those who beat Me, my cheeks to those who plucked my beard; My face I did not shield from buffets and spitting.

RP: 22 “My God, my God, why have You abandoned Me?”

2R: Philippians 2:6-11 Though Christ Jesus was in the form of God, He did not regard equality with with God something to be grasped. Rather, He emptied Himself, taking in the form of a slave.

G: Matthew 27:33-54 The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus

Filipino:

Walang Papuri. Walang Aleluya. Put the verse in tonong Pasyon.

P of the G:
1. Alay Kapwa (Tinio & Hontiveros)
2. Kung ‘Yong nanaisin (Francisco)
3. Panalanging Maging Bukas Palad (Rodrigo + Ramirez)

This is a good Sunday to ask permission if you could sing your best and grandest Santo/Osana. If your choir could do multiple voices, do so, or do it in Latin/Gregorian chant. Wag lang mag-over ha. We still are in Lent, when songs are toned down. If you do it acapella, that would be great, kasi technically, wala kayong instrument, so technically you are not accompanied with music that during this liturgical season should be of such quality that merely sustains the singing.
