25th Sunday in Ordinary Time (in Year C)
Liturgical Color: Green

Repost from JR Medina's post in BP Forum

Readings:

1R: Amos 8:4-7: A warning to people who trample upon the needy and bring the poor of the land to an end. God will never forget any of their deeds. The rich shouldn’t be greedy.

RP: 112 or 113. Praise the Lord, who raises the poor.

2R: 1 Timothy 2:1-8. Paul urges us to pray for all men, including kings and all who are in high positions. The Savior desires all men to be saved.

G: Luke 16:1-13. This is the Parable of the Dishonest Servant. A servant who was about to lose his job reduced the debts of others who were indebted to the Master. The Master commended that dishonest steward for acting prudently.
I’ll try to analyse the seemingly difficult Gospel account. At the defining moment of losing a job, or even death, money seems to be of little importance. That’s why the dishonest servant gave away much of his master’s money, because when he reduced what had been recorded, those debtors would be kind to him when he loses his job. That’s what Luke meant when he wrote Make friends for yourselves with dishonest wealth, so that when it fails, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. The master even commended the dishonest servant for it. Moral lesson: Value things that will last a lifetime. No servant can serve two masters. Christ loves the poor because this is what they do: give little value to worldly things, and thus have more time for heavenly things.

Readings:

1R: Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14 This is the conversation between God and Moses at Mount Sinai. God had just given Moses the tablets that contained the 10 Commandments, and He told Moses to go down because the people are worshipping false gods, calling them stiff-necked. Moses implores the Lord for mercy, reminds God about His promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The Lord back tracked from His decision.

RP: 50 or 51: I will leave this place and go to My Father.

Or I will rise and go to my father.

2R: 1 Timothy 1:12-17. Saint Paul admits that he previously had blasphemed and persecuted and insulted Jesus Christ, that he was the foremost of sinners, but Jesus Christ showed his patience and mercy.

G: Luke 15:1-32, or 15:1-10

A. If your parish priest is going to read the long version, this will be about three parables: parable of the lost sheep, parable of the lost coin, and parable of the prodigal son (and loving father).

Parable of the lost sheep is like this. There were 100 sheep, one of which got lost. The shepherd would look everywhere, even leave behind the 99 others. There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous persons who need no repentance.

Parable of lost coin: A woman had 10 silver coins, and she lost one. She lights a lamp, sweeps her entire house until she finds it. Upon finding it she throws a party in joy.

Parable of the prodigal son is about the rebellious son whose father later on forgave him.

B. If your parish priest is going to read the short version, parable of the prodigal son and loving father lang.
