First Reading                                  Dn 12:1-3
In those days, I Daniel,
heard this word of the Lord:
"At that time there shall arise
Michael, the great prince,
guardian of your people;
it shall be a time unsurpassed in distress
since nations began until that time.
At that time your people shall escape,
everyone who is found written in the book.

"Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake;
some shall live forever,
others shall be an everlasting horror and disgrace.

"But the wise shall shine brightly
like the splendor of the firmament,
and those who lead the many to justice
shall be like the stars forever."
Responsorial Psalm                                     Ps 16:5, 8, 9-10, 11
R. (1) You are my inheritance, O Lord!
O LORD, my allotted portion and my cup,
you it is who hold fast my lot.
I set the LORD ever before me;
with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.
R.
You are my inheritance, O Lord!
Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices,
my body, too, abides in confidence;
because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld,
nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption.
R.
You are my inheritance, O Lord!
You will show me the path to life,
fullness of joys in your presence,
the delights at your right hand forever.
R.
You are my inheritance, O Lord!
Second Reading                        Heb 10:11-14, 18
Brothers and sisters:
Every priest stands daily at his ministry,
offering frequently those same sacrifices
that can never take away sins.
But this one offered one sacrifice for sins,
and took his seat forever at the right hand of God;
now he waits until his enemies are made his footstool.
For by one offering
he has made perfect forever those who are being consecrated.

Where there is forgiveness of these,
there is no longer offering for sin.
GOSPEL                                        Mk 13:24-32
Jesus said to his disciples:
"In those days after that tribulation
the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light,
and the stars will be falling from the sky,
and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.

"And then they will see 'the Son of Man coming in the clouds'
with great power and glory,
and then he will send out the angels
and gather his elect from the four winds,
from the end of the earth to the end of the sky.

"Learn a lesson from the fig tree.
When its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves,
you know that summer is near.
In the same way, when you see these things happening,
know that he is near, at the gates.
Amen, I say to you,
this generation will not pass away
until all these things have taken place.
Heaven and earth will pass away,
but my words will not pass away.

"But of that day or hour, no one knows,
neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

Homily/Reflection (Nov. 18 Readings)
My brothers and sisters in Christ, may the Spirit of God richly enlighten your mind today with spiritual understanding so that you may perceive the fullness of the Scriptures that we have just heard.

Today's readings made reference to terrible things, a time of anguish such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But that is the time when the people shall be delivered. It speaks of a time of suffering, the sun being darkened, the moon not giving its light, the stars falling from heaven, and the powers of Heaven being shaken. It will be a time when Heaven and earth will pass away.

A few years ago, I came across a book that alleged private revelations of the Blessed Virgin Mary to a person who lives in Italy. The private revelation found in that book alleged the following:
"I confirm to you that, by the great jubilee of the year two thousand, there will take place the triumph of my Immaculate Heart, which I foretold to you at Fatima, and this will come to pass with the return of Jesus in glory, to establish his reign in the world. Thus you will at last be able to see with your own eyes the new heaven and the new earth."
Year 2,000, the year of the Jubilee came to pass three years ago. Thousands and thousands of believers from around the world, having placed their hope in such alleged private revelations, awaited for the glorious return of Jesus Christ to physically reign in the world, over and above the transformation of all creation, the new heaven and the new earth. After years of private revelations and alleged prophecies, many felt relief in knowing that the moment was finally arriving. They felt relief that the world as we presently know it, was coming to an end. They believed this would be the end of evil, the end of the battle between good and evil.

It does not matter where you turn today, many seers are predicting the glorious Second Coming of Christ, the new heaven and the new earth. The false seer of the aforementioned alleged prophecies was not the only one misguided soul.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, I have a big problem with this kind of alleged heavenly messages ! You see, Jesus said something in Matthew 24:34, Mark 13:30 and Luke 21:32 regarding the time of those events. No one seems to pay attention to what Jesus said. Let me read it to you.
Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." [Mt. 24:34; Mk. 13:30; Lk. 21:32]
Once more, I repeat the words of Jesus, "TRULY, I TELL YOU THIS GENERATION WILL NOT PASS AWAY UNTIL ALL THESE THINGS HAVE TAKEN PLACE."

Now, I have a problem with this! Did Jesus lie? Or are these doomsday seers false prophets who seek to confuse and divide the faithful? I say divide because Catholics are divided when it comes to believing in false seers, some blindly believing in them, others rejecting them. Did the prophecies of Jesus already come to pass as prophesied?"

Let us review the facts for a moment. What are these stars that are falling from Heaven? What does it mean that the powers in the heavens will be shaken? The Book of Revelation tells us,
"And war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they were defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world - he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him." [Rev. 12:7-9]
Just before that in the Book of Revelation, we read,
"Then another portent appeared in Heaven: a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth." [Rev. 12:3-4] In the Gospel of Luke, when the seventy disciples returned from their mission, Jesus said, "I watched Satan fall from heaven like a flash of lightning."
You see my brothers and sisters, Jesus was speaking symbolically. When He spoke of stars, He was referring to the fallen angels and making reference to their being cast out of Heaven.

Through the death of Christ and His glorious Resurrection, the Lord Jesus overcame sin and the world. He regained His rightful Throne that had been taken from Him by Satan when sin entered the world. Through the sacrifice of the Blood of Christ, "the accuser of our comrades has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God." [Rev. 12:10b] Satan can no longer accuse us of our sins because by the Blood of Christ, through faith in Jesus, the Sacrament of Baptism and the Sacrament of Confession, our sins are forgiven forever. The grip that Satan had on men has been broken by the Blood of Christ.

Now, you may ask, "What about the new Heaven and the new earth?" There is a new Heaven since Jesus has died on the Holy Cross and was taken to Heaven where He now sits on the Eternal Throne. Satan and his fallen angels have been casted out of Heaven. Heaven is not the same anymore. It has been cleansed of the fallen angels and now Jesus sits as the rightful King of the eternal Kingdom of God.

As to the new earth, the Acts of the Apostles tells us, "Jesus ordered them (His disciples) not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father." [Acts 1:4] "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." [Acts 1:8] And as we all know, the Apostles received the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Day, that day being the beginning of the invisible Kingdom of God on earth. Since that day, the earth has never been the same. Everytime someone is baptized by water and Spirit in the Most Holy Name of the Trinity, he receives the promised new creation and becomes a member of the Body of Christ, the invisible Kingdom of God on earth.

Considering the fact that before the days of Jesus, no one except the Blessed Virgin Mary who was born without sin, had become new creations, then all were called to spiritually die because sin was in the world. But now, those who are baptized through faith in Christ, as adopted members of the Body of Christ, they qualify to inherit the Kingdom of God. They have overcome spiritual death. They belong to the Kingdom of God on earth, the new earth that has been transformed by the Blood of Christ.

So we know that the stars have fallen from Heaven, that there is a new Heaven and a new earth because the Holy Scriptures tells us so. This confirms that Jesus never lied. When He said all those things would happen in the present generation, in His days, it all happened within weeks after He died on the Holy Cross, at which time the generation of His days was still living.

Today's First Reading from the Book of Daniel predicted the coming of all those events. Now some will say, "Well, what about the words of Daniel where it says many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. That resurrection has never happened." My brothers and sisters, those who think that way are wrong again. Read the Holy Bible!

The Gospel of Matthew tells us that when Jesus breathed His last, "At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, and the rocks were splits. The tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised. After his resurrection they came out of the tombs and entered the holy city and appeared to many." [Mt. 27:51-3] In the days of Jesus, a large number of the saints resurrected as promised!

Everything that we find prophesied in the Gospels, especially those prophecies found in Chapter 24 of the Gospel of Matthew, have come to pass. While there are hundreds of false prophets out there who claim that these things are coming at a future date to confuse and divide you, as sad as it is to say, they have been deceived, have become liars and the father of liars is Satan. By pursuing their falsehoods, they have become children of Satan, doing Satan's work. Because they have neglected to prayerfully read the Holy Scripture under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, fame and money has led them to fabricate falsehoods to deceive the faithful.

My brothers and sisters, these lies have been going on since the days of the early Church. They have been more visible during the last 25 years because of improved technology in communication. But the fact remains, Satan is working hard to confuse and divide everybody in order to lead them away from the truth. Satan is working hard to have you believe that Jesus is returning to establish a worldly Kingdom of earth. These are all lies. The Kingdom of God is invisible. It is a spiritual Kingdom. It is already here and you are a member of that Kingdom through your Baptism.

The time has come to put an end to the present day's greatest deception that has infiltrated the Catholic Church. How long must we tolerate the circulating of the deceptions of false seers, not only in the public, but also in our Churches?

My brothers and sisters in Christ, the discerning of the spirits is not so hard. As a general rule, the alleged heavenly messages of false seers are usually full of errors. Allow me a few moments to quote such errors that are presently circulating in the Catholic Church.

An alleged seer wrote, "the time will come when you will be the only light left burning." In other words, all of us, you, me, the Pope, the Cardinals, the Bishops, the priests, all those who are not followers of this alleged seer, they will lose faith. The followers of the alleged seer will be the only light left in the world! This is Satan speaking! This is not the Blessed Virgin Mary that I know.

In another instance, it was alleged that the Blessed Virgin Mary would come down from Heaven to place herself as the head of the followers of the alleged seer. Do you really believe for one moment that Mary will take physical form and lead a physical army to destroy Satan who has a spiritual body? Not only is this an impossibility, it is an abomination!

The aforementioned alleged seer also stated that through his followers, the Holy Spirit would speak, and by means of the Spirit making use of them, the whole world would be completely renewed. What does that mean? Is that not saying that all the other priests, the deacons, the seminarians, the sisters and the faithful have all fallen from the grace of God and are in need of a renewal?

In these false prophecies, it was also alleged that Our Lady said twice, in 1988 and in 1989, that all her promises given to this seer would come to pass by 1998. Did any of those prophecies come to pass? No my brothers and sisters in Christ. Nothing happened! Did Our Lady lie when she made promises during the Church approved apparitions such as Fatima or Lourdes? Certainly not! Because the apparitions at Fatima and Lourdes were genuine. Has Our Lady suddenly become a liar? Certainly not! The only conclusion is that it is not Our Lady who was speaking through this alleged seer, but rather, Satan himself!

My brothers and sisters in Christ, I can go on and on with the many lies that are being promoted within the Holy Catholic Church by those who have fallen from the grace of God. Did you know that there are some who claim that you no longer need Jesus. You only have to call upon God the Father once in your lifetime and you will be saved. Again, this is Satan's work to redirect you towards falsehoods so you will lose your salvation in Christ.

Since very few Catholics are speaking out against these falsehoods because they do not want to offend misled clerical and lay members of the Church, you have an obligation before God to secure your salvation. You have an obligation to follow the sound teachings of the Holy Catholic Church. You have an obligation to reject these false prophets and their deceptive lies. You have an obligation to read and study the Holy Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church so you will be informed of the one and only truth.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, Jesus said, "Truly, I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place." Now you must decide! Who do you believe? You cannot serve two masters! Do you believe your Lord Jesus or the false prophets? If you believe Jesus, then destroy all what you possess that contains lies for the only purpose of destroying your soul! May the grace of God be with you as you choose and act accordingly. Your salvation depends on it!

First Reading                          1 Kgs 17:10-16
In those days, Elijah the prophet went to Zarephath.
As he arrived at the entrance of the city,
a widow was gathering sticks there; he called out to her,
"Please bring me a small cupful of water to drink."
She left to get it, and he called out after her,
"Please bring along a bit of bread."
She answered, "As the LORD, your God, lives,
I have nothing baked; there is only a handful of flour in my jar
and a little oil in my jug.
Just now I was collecting a couple of sticks,
to go in and prepare something for myself and my son;
when we have eaten it, we shall die."
Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid.
Go and do as you propose.
But first make me a little cake and bring it to me.
Then you can prepare something for yourself and your son.
For the LORD, the God of Israel, says,
'The jar of flour shall not go empty,
nor the jug of oil run dry,
until the day when the LORD sends rain upon the earth.'"
She left and did as Elijah had said.
She was able to eat for a year, and he and her son as well;
the jar of flour did not go empty,
nor the jug of oil run dry,
as the LORD had foretold through Elijah.

Second Reading                        Heb 9:24-28
Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands,
a copy of the true one, but heaven itself,
that he might now appear before God on our behalf.
Not that he might offer himself repeatedly,
as the high priest enters each year into the sanctuary
with blood that is not his own;
if that were so, he would have had to suffer repeatedly
from the foundation of the world.
But now once for all he has appeared at the end of the ages
to take away sin by his sacrifice.
Just as it is appointed that human beings die once,
and after this the judgment, so also Christ,
offered once to take away the sins of many,
will appear a second time, not to take away sin
but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him.
Gospel Mk 12:38-44
In the course of his teaching Jesus said to the crowds,
"Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes
and accept greetings in the marketplaces,
seats of honor in synagogues,
and places of honor at banquets.
They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext
recite lengthy prayers.
They will receive a very severe condemnation."

He sat down opposite the treasury
and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury.
Many rich people put in large sums.
A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.
Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them,
"Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more
than all the other contributors to the treasury.
For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth,
but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had,
her whole livelihood."
Or                             Mk 12:41-44
Jesus sat down opposite the treasury
and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury.

Reflections/Homily (Nov. 4 Readings)

Blessed be the widow who placed her complete trust in the Divine Providence of God. Blessed are those who persevere in their living faith. Good morning my brothers and sisters in Christ. I hope that you all had a wonderful past week and that this coming week will bring you many more joys in the peace of the Lord Jesus.

Have any of you noticed that all three readings spoke of widows? In the First Reading, there is the widow who shared the last of her food with Elijah. In the Gospel, there is the poor widow who gave all that she had to live on. In the Second Reading, although the word 'widow' is not used, we perceive that the Holy Catholic Church that Jesus was instituting on earth during His ministry, it was widowed when He offered Himself as a sacrifice to remove sin from the world.

In all three cases, a great sacrifice was made. In the First Reading, the widow who fed Elijah, she sacrificed all what she had for herself and her son. In the Second Reading, Jesus sacrificed Himself, He who was the only Begotten Son of God and in who the fullness of God was pleased to dwell bodily [Col. 1:19, 2:9] In the Gospel Reading, the widow sacrificed her last two small copper coins.

In all three cases, they all trusted in God the Father. The widow who fed Elijah trusted in the Lord God of Israel to provide her future needs so she and her son would not die of starvation. Jesus trusted in God the Father to raise Him from the dead. The poor widow who gave her last coins trusted in Yahweh to provide for her future needs.

And in all three cases, each and everyone of them were blessed according to their sacrifice. The widow and her son never went hungry because the jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail. Jesus was glorified by God the Father. "When He had made purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the Name He has inherited is more excellent than theirs." [Heb. 1:3b-4] The poor widow, in the presence of God incarnated through Jesus Christ, she gave all what she had to Yahweh, her action having been recorded in the Holy Scriptures so it will be remembered during all the days of the world.

God always rewards those who persevere in their living faith. No one goes by unnoticed. If you are proud, you will be noticed. If you are humble, you will also be noticed. If you are proud like the scribes who walked around in long robes so all would greet them with respect in the market places, and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honour at banquet, then you too, like the scribes, will be noticed and receive greater condemnation. If you are humble like the poor widow who's name no one knows, then you will be noticed, God will raise you and reward you according to your sacrifice.

Today's Second Reading tells us that Jesus died once for all time and for all people when He made His perfect sacrifice to remove sin. His Divine Sacrifice as the Lamb of God on the Holy Cross put an end to the first age, the days of the Old Testament and the Covenant of the Law. His Divine Sacrifice as the Lamb of God opened the new and last age in which we now belong, the days of the New Testament and the New Covenant of grace.

When Jesus returns at the end of this last age, it will not be to deal with sin by sacrificing Himself again, but to judge the living and the dead. It will be to collect the saints who have persevered in their living faith and who are awaiting for the arrival of the Lord Jesus.

We must never forget that God told Abraham that He is the God of the living, not of the dead. [Mt. 22:32] The living are those who shine as lights in the world, those who shine in love towards God and their brothers and sisters.

My brothers and sisters, there is no room in Heaven for those who are indifferent, for those who meet the minimum requirements of Christian life so they will be 'acceptable' to God. The Book of Revelations tells us, "I know your works; you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth." [Rev. 3:15-6]

Those who are lukewarm are those who say, "I only go to Church on Sunday because weekdays are not mandatory." They are those who say, "I only give P 5.00 a week in the collection plate on Sunday because that is all that the others give." They are those who say, "I do not read the Bible, nor do Bible studies, because I know enough about the Scriptures." They are those who say, "I am not getting involved on the Parish Council because I have other worldly pleasures to attend to."

Regarding such answers, St. Paul says, "Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God - what is good and acceptable and perfect." [Rom. 12:1]

The widow who fed Elijah, she knew the will of God. The poor widow who gave her last two coins, she knew the will of God. The Lord Jesus, when He sacrificed Himself on the Holy Cross for our sins, He knew the will of God. All three, they embraced a spiritual mind and did what was good, acceptable and perfect in the eyes of God.

This week, let us reflect upon our commitment as members of the Church. Let us assess if we are among the blessed who persevere in their living faith. If we can presently count ourselves among those who will be spit out of the mouth of the Lord because we are indifferent to our sanctification, then, let us embrace the grace of God and the purifying power of the Holy Spirit so we may become Christlike to qualify as children of God.
