This feast day celebrates the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as the mother of our Lord Jesus. The first reading gives a traditional blessing. The second reading tells how Jesus was born of Mary to save us. And in the gospel, we hear how the shepherds visited the Holy Family after the birth of Jesus.

The readings for the Feast of the Holy Family Year A give us a look at the life of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. The first reading speaks of the holiness of family relationships. The psalm also sings of the blessings of families. The second reading tells of how families must live in love and unity. In the gospel Joseph is once again visited by an angel and does as he is commanded in order to protect his family.

Christmas Mass (Morning) - Year A - December 25, 2022

Christmas is an important celebration in the Church. Only Easter carries a greater significance. On this feast we celebrate the incarnation of our Lord – God choosing to become one of us.

Christmas is celebrated as an octave – eight days of observance.
The Christmas season starts on December 25 with the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord and concludes on the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. It includes the Feast of the Epiphany.

From his fullness we have all received,
grace in place of grace,
because while the law was given through Moses,
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God.
The only Son, God, who is at the Father’s side,
has revealed him.
