22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time - Year C - August 31, 2025

On the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C, the readings teach us about humility and generosity. These lessons are shown through simple actions and attitudes.
  • Humility before God: Sirach advises humility, reminding us to be modest and not to seek praise. We should acknowledge our limitations and depend on God.
  • Gentleness and wisdom: Being gentle and wise brings more respect than being proud and boastful. Gentleness leads to better relationships and more peace.
  • Knowing our place: Recognizing our smallness helps us see the greatness of God. It reminds us to be humble and grateful.
  • Generosity without reward: Jesus teaches to invite those who cannot repay us, showing true generosity. This selfless giving reflects God’s love.
  • Serving others: Helping those in need without expecting anything in return reflects true Christian love. Service is a key aspect of living out our faith.
  • Respect for all: Respect everyone, not just the wealthy or powerful, as everyone is valuable in God’s eyes. This shows that all people deserve love and kindness.

31st Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year B - November 3, 2024

Pasensya kung natagalan at nabusy sa school. Ang tema na nasa baba ay pwede po ninyong maging basehan upang makagawa kayo ng inyong sariling line-up ng kanta sa darating na linggo. You can practice also the songs of Hangad that I posted through a youtube video link. They are good and liturgical kasi alam kong may iba dito na belong sa mga parish na ang mga Parish priests are very sensitive in terms of songs kung liturgical ba talaga o hindi.

On the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B, we reflect on key teachings from Deuteronomy, Hebrews, and the Gospel of Mark. These readings guide us in understanding love, obedience, and Jesus’ eternal priesthood.
  • Love of God: In Deuteronomy, we are commanded to love God with all our heart, soul, and strength. This shows the importance of putting God first in our lives.
  • Obedience to Commandments: Deuteronomy also calls us to keep God’s commandments. Obeying these commandments brings us closer to God and guides our actions.
  • Jesus’ Eternal Priesthood: Hebrews emphasizes that Jesus is our eternal high priest. His priesthood is perfect and unchanging, unlike the priests of the old covenant.
  • Perfect Sacrifice: Jesus offers himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins. This sacrifice is once and for all, showing his great love and mercy.
  • Greatest Commandments: In Mark, Jesus teaches that the greatest commandments are to love God and love our neighbor. These two commandments summarize the entire law and the prophets.
  • Unity of Love and Law: Jesus’ teaching in Mark unites love and law. True love for God naturally leads to loving others and keeping God’s commandments.
Reflecting on these themes for the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B helps us grow in our faith and understanding. On the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B, we are reminded of God’s love and our call to love him and others.

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year B - January 28, 2024

Thank you po.

The readings for the 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B (see below) invite us to recognize Jesus and grant him authority in our lives. In the first reading, Moses foretells the coming of a mighty prophet. The Gospel tells how the people were amazed by the way Jesus taught with authority. The readings for the 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B, encompass several interwoven themes that are central to Christian theology and spiritual life:

  • Prophetic Authority and Divine Truth: The first reading from Deuteronomy speaks of a prophet like Moses, emphasizing the importance of heeding true prophetic voices that convey God's will and truth. This theme of authoritative teaching is echoed in the Gospel, where Jesus' teachings are contrasted with those of the scribes.
  • Divine Guidance and Obedience: Psalm 95 calls for joyful praise and worship of God, recognizing Him as our creator and guide. It emphasizes listening to God's voice and avoiding the hard-heartedness of our ancestors, underscoring the importance of obedience to divine guidance.
  • Undistracted Devotion to God: The second reading from 1 Corinthians discusses the states of married and unmarried life, highlighting how the unmarried can focus more directly on pleasing the Lord. This theme of undistracted devotion is relevant to understanding different vocations and the ways they can lead to holiness.
  • The Authority of Jesus: The Gospel reading vividly demonstrates Jesus' divine authority, not just in teaching but also in his power over unclean spirits. His authority impresses and amazes the people, revealing him as a figure of divine power and wisdom.
  • Recognition of Christ's Power: The reaction of the congregation in the Gospel to Jesus' exorcism and teaching underlines the theme of recognizing and responding to Christ's power and authority. This response of amazement and the spread of Jesus' fame throughout Galilee are central to understanding the impact of Jesus' ministry.
These themes for the 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B. collectively focus on the recognition and acceptance of divine authority, the call to obedient and joyful worship, the importance of discerning true prophetic voices, and the unique and powerful role of Jesus Christ in salvation history. They offer rich material for reflection on how Christians are called to respond to God’s word and authority in their everyday lives.

Readings:
·       First Reading – Deuteronomy 18:15-20: Moses declares God's promise to raise a prophet like him from among the people. This prophet, carrying God's words, must be heeded, with consequences for false prophecy.
·       Responsorial Psalm – Psalm 95: If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Let us joyfully praise the Lord, our salvation's rock. In worship, remember He is our creator and guide. Heed His voice today, avoiding the hardness of heart shown by our ancestors.
·       Second Reading – 1 Corinthians 7:32-35: The unmarried are encouraged to focus solely on pleasing the Lord, free from worldly distractions. Married individuals naturally divide attention between the Lord and their spouse. This advice is for undistracted devotion.
·       Gospel – Mark 1:21-28: In Capernaum's synagogue, Jesus' authoritative teaching awed listeners, contrasting with the scribes. His authority was further displayed when He commanded an unclean spirit to exit a possessed man. The spirit's obedience, marked by convulsions and a loud cry, left the congregation amazed. They marveled at Jesus' powerful teachings and control over unclean spirits. This incident quickly elevated Jesus' reputation throughout Galilee.

3rd Sunday of Advent - Year B - December 17, 2023

Good day dear brothers and sisters in Christ. We the admins of this Blog would like to express our gratitude for always visiting our blog. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year po sa lahat…

The links of song suggestions for Misa de Gallo (from old post):
We are now on the 3rd Sunday of Advent, and the readings encourage us to rejoice because our salvation is near. The first reading foreshadows the coming of the Messiah, the anointed one. The psalm is the Magnificat - "My soul rejoices in my God." The second reading encourages us to rejoice, pray, and give thanks. And in the gospel John the Baptist tells the priests that he is not the Christ, but that the Messiah is coming.

Theme and Main points:
  • Witness to the Light: John the Baptist's role as a witness to the light, who is Jesus, is emphasized. This theme highlights the importance of testifying to Jesus as the true Light who brings divine truth and life.
  • Identity and Mission of John the Baptist: John’s clear denial of being the Christ, Elijah, or the Prophet reflects his understanding of his own identity and mission. This theme illustrates the importance of knowing one’s role in God’s plan and staying true to it.
  • Humility in Service: John’s declaration of unworthiness to untie Jesus’ sandals showcases his humility. It teaches that true greatness in God's kingdom comes from recognizing one's own humbleness and the superiority of Jesus.
  • Preparation for the Messiah: John’s role in preparing the way for Jesus underscores the theme of making oneself ready for the Messiah’s coming. It calls for spiritual readiness and openness to receive Christ.
ENTRANCE:
1.       Ayaw Paglangan Ginoo - swak for the theme since we're still waiting for HIS coming
2.       Umanhi Ka, Ayaw Paglangan - can be found in Ad-5 in old Cebuano Songbook or page 170 in GKK Songbook.
3.       Balang Araw ( Borres, Francisco ) this is only a suggestion. Try to change the " Narito na ang Manunubos, Luwalhatiin ang Dios" into " Darating na ang Manunubos, luwalhatiin ang Dios."
4.       Ang Puso Ko’y Nagpupuri (“Nagagalak ang aking Espiritu”) Clear this first. I do not believe this is an exclusively Marian song. It’s also about rejoicing.
5.        Purihi’t Pasalamatan (Esteban & Hontiveros) “sa masyang awit”
6.       Save us O Lord (Dufford) I acknowledge this is Lenten, pero yung message niya okay na okay kay kumpareng John the Baptist.
7.       Play Before the Lord (Dufford) “Stand among His people here, telling of all His ways” can be interpreted to be so St. John the Baptist
8.       I Rejoiced (Foley)

READINGS:
  • First Reading - Isaiah 61:1-2A, 10-11: Anointed by God, I am sent to bring hope to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, and proclaim freedom. Clothed in salvation, I joyfully await God's justice to flourish globally.
  • Responsorial Psalm - Luke 1: My soul rejoices in my God.
My soul magnifies the Lord, rejoicing in God my Savior. He has blessed me, His humble servant, and shown mercy across generations, fulfilling His promise with compassion.
  • Second Reading - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24: Rejoice always, pray ceaselessly, and give thanks in all situations. Embrace the Spirit, discern truth, and avoid evil. May God sanctify you wholly for Christ's return, fulfilling His promise.
  • Gospel John 1:6-8, 19-28: Sent by God, John the Baptist testified to the coming Light, making clear he was not the Christ, Elijah, nor the Prophet. Questioned by Jewish leaders, he identified himself as the voice prophesied by Isaiah, preparing the way for the Lord. Despite his significant role, John humbly acknowledged the greater one to follow, whose sandals he felt unworthy to untie.

OFFERTORY:
1.       Andama ang Dalan
2.       Nagahalad Kami
3.       Diyutay Lang Kini
4.       Ang Tanging Alay Ko
Prioritize Stanza 3. One reinforces the more common message of Advent even more when in Stanza 3 this is sung: “Aking hinihintay ang ‘Yong pagdarating, Jesus” rather than “pagbabalik, Jesus.” Nevertheless, pagbabalik can certainly remain, as again this season also has an eschatological
notion.
5.       Panalangin sa Pagiging Bukas Palad (Arboleda & Francisco)
6.       Panalangin Maging Bukas Palad (Rodrigo & Ramirez)
7.       Prayer for Generosity (Arboleda) “To give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and ask not for reward” is so John the Baptist.
8.       Dwelling Place (“May Christ find a dwelling place in our hearts”) (Foley)

COMMUNION:
1.          Andama ang Dalan (Ad-2)
2.          Panahon Na (F-14)
3.          Awit ng Paghahangad (Cenzon) “Magagalak na aawit”
4.          Liwanag ng Aming Puso: Lentish but (“...sa amin manahan Ka...”)
5.          Pananatili (“yayakapain ang landasin...Mo” is again terno sa G No. 3)
6.          Empty Space (Foley) “So You may one day see my face” pero some consider this for the Sacred Heart mas apt. Bagaman mas nauugnay ito sa Kabanal-banalang Puso, this is taking it one step further: If we are anticipative and waiting so much, we might as well wait for the right One. Besides, this song could even help in increasing the longing. My own opinion lang ang last sentence; I’d love it if you’d
disagree para natu3 tayo lahat thru exchange of reasonable reasons. Ang panget ng English ko, but
you get what I mean.
7. In Him Alone
8. God of Silence (Francisco)
9. Holy Darkness “As we await You” pero some consider this for the Easter Vigil mas apt.
11. One Thing I Ask (Tirol)
12. This Alone (Manion)
13. One More Gift (Francisco)
14. Prayer of Saint Francis (Temple)

    RECESSIONAL:
1.       Umanhi Ka Mesiyas (Ad-3)
2.       Ang Tawag sa Panahon
3.       Tanda ng Kaharian ng Diyos (Morano & Francisco)
4.       Awit ng Pasasalamat (Hontiveros) “Tayo’y magagalak”
5.       A Time Will Come for Singing (Schutte)
6.       Wait for the Lord
7.       Life Forever More (Ellerton & Francisco)
8.       The Lord is my Light. Prioritize Stanza 2: “Your face, Lord, I seek.”

31st Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A - November 5, 2023

We are very sorry for not consistently posting here as we are busy also with our academics and personal life at medyo kapos din sa budget because of our thesis. We will always do our best to post sometimes here.

Themes for the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
The readings for the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A are a call to humility and holiness. The first reading demands that we listen to God and love one another. The psalm reminds us to find our peace and rest in God. The second reading tells us that we work to proclaim the Good News. And in the gospel, Jesus calls out those who lay heavy laws on others but do not practice what they preach.

  • Practice vs. Preach: Jesus criticizes the religious leaders for not practicing what they preach. This theme highlights the importance of congruency between one’s words and actions in religious life.
  • Heavy Burdens: The religious authorities are blamed for laying heavy burdens on others while not lifting a finger themselves. This theme centers on the unjust imposition of religious obligations without personal commitment.
  • Humility over Titles: Jesus advises against using honorific titles like “Rabbi” and emphasizes the value of humility. This theme promotes a down-to-earth approach over seeking social or religious status.

  • Gospel – Matthew 23:1-12: Jesus tells the crowd and his disciples to follow the teachings of the scribes and Pharisees but not their actions.
