For the nth time, we are very
sorry for not doing any updates last week here. We are so busy doing our part
time jobs and school activities, hope you understand our situation dear brothers
and sisters.
The readings for the 33rd Sunday
in Ordinary Time Year A are a call to do the work of the Kingdom of God with
the gifts we have been given. The first reading sings the praises of the worthy
wife who uses her talents to labor for good. The psalm tells us that those who
follow the Lord are blessed. The second reading reminds us that we are children
of light and goodness. And in the gospel Jesus tells the parable of the talents
and praises the servants who used their resources wisely.
Themes:- Stewardship: The passage emphasizes the
importance of wisely managing resources or gifts given by God.
- Accountability: Each servant in the
parable is held accountable for how they use their talents, highlighting
the theme of personal responsibility.
- Risk and Growth: The servants who invest
their talents are taking a risk, suggesting that spiritual growth often
involves stepping out of one’s comfort zone.
- Work Ethic: The servants who double their
talents work hard, suggesting the value of effort and diligence in
spiritual life.
- Divine Judgment: The passage suggests
that there will be a time of reckoning where each individual will be
judged based on their actions.
- Inequality: The talents are distributed
unevenly at the start, which may prompt considerations about the spiritual
implications of inequality.

the better, or more particularly, acknowledging the need for reform.

Thessalonians 5:1-6: The day of the Lord will arrive unexpectedly.
While others may be caught off guard, believers are children of light and
should stay alert and sober.
- Gospel – Matthew
25:14-30: A man going on a journey entrusts his servants with
different amounts of money. Two servants invest and double their money,

The readings for the 28th Sunday
in Ordinary Time Year A tell of the abundance of the Kingdom of God. In the
first reading we hear of the wonders of the Mountain of the Lord. The psalm
tells of how God will care for us as a shepherd cares for his sheep. The second
reading speaks of how God provides for us in abundance. And in the gospel Jesus
compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a lavish wedding banquet.
Our songs theme must be centered
on the following:
- Kingdom as a Feast: The parable describes
the Kingdom of Heaven as a wedding banquet thrown by a king. This theme
visualizes the divine realm as a celebratory and communal event.
- Invitation Rejected: Initially invited
guests refuse the call, illustrating how some might reject or ignore
divine invitations. This reflects the theme of human indifference or
hostility to divine outreach.
- Open Invitation: The king extends the
invitation to everyone, both good and bad. This emphasizes God’s
inclusivity and the universal nature of the divine call.
- Unprepared Guest: A guest without a
wedding robe faces consequences, suggesting that while the invitation is
open, certain preparations or transformations are expected for full
participation.

23: I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my
life.
- The LORD, as a caring shepherd, provides and
protects. He leads in safety, offers comfort in danger, and honors in the
presence of enemies. With the LORD’s enduring kindness, one finds eternal
refuge in His house.
- Second Reading – Philippians
4:12-14, 19-20: Paul expresses contentment in all situations, whether
in scarcity or plenty. Through Christ’s strength, he remains resilient. He
acknowledges the support of others and assures God’s provision for their
needs, praising God eternally.
- Gospel – Matthew
22:1-14 or 22:1-10: Jesus shares a parable about a king who hosts a

The
readings for the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time for Year A focus on discipleship
and our choice to follow Jesus or not. In the first reading Israel is warned
that they must be faithful. The psalm begs God to return to the vineyard and
care for it once again. The second reading encourages Christians to continue
along the path that Jesus has shown us. And in the gospel Jesus tells the
parable of the tenants, who rejected the landowner.
Theme:- Parable
of the Vineyard:
The parable of the vineyard highlights the theme of God’s ownership and
care over His creation. The vineyard symbolizes God’s kingdom, and the
tenants represent humanity’s responsibility to steward it.
- Rejection
of Messengers:
The theme of rejecting God’s messengers is evident as the tenants mistreat
and kill the servants sent by the owner. This reflects the historical
pattern of disregarding God’s messages and messengers.
- Sending
the Son:
The owner’s decision to send his son underscores the theme of God’s
ultimate outreach. Sending His Son, Jesus, reflects God’s desire to
restore the relationship with humanity through a new covenant.
- Crucial
Choice and Accountability:
The theme of choice and accountability emerges as the tenants plot to
seize the inheritance. Their decision leads to severe consequences,
highlighting the importance of right choices and their consequences.
- Transfer
of Responsibility:
The transfer of responsibility from unfaithful tenants to others
underscores the theme of God’s plan for redemption. This symbolizes the
transition from the Jewish covenant to the inclusion of the Gentiles in
God’s kingdom.
- Rejected
Stone and Cornerstone:
The reference to the stone rejected by the builders becoming the
cornerstone illustrates the theme of God’s sovereignty. This emphasizes
that God’s purposes will ultimately prevail, even if initially rejected by
people.

the vineyard, letting it turn into a wasteland. This vineyard is an
allegory for the house of Israel, where expected justice turns to chaos.
- Responsorial
Psalm – Psalm
80: The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel.
God planted a vine from Egypt,
cleared the land, and let it flourish. Then, its walls were broken, making it
vulnerable to beasts and trespassers. A plea is made for divine care and
restoration so that the vine, representing Israel, will thrive and its people
will be saved.- Second
Reading – Philippians
4:6-9: Don’t worry, but instead bring your concerns to God through
prayer. When you do, God’s peace will guard your heart and mind. Focus on
things that are true, honorable, just, pure, and lovely. By following this
guidance and emulating good examples, you’ll find peace.
- Gospel – Matthew
21:33-43: A landowner leases a vineyard but the tenants mistreat his
servants and kill his son. When asked, the elders agree that the owner
will evict these tenants and find new ones. Jesus warns that those who

The
readings for the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time for Year A focus on mercy and
forgiveness. In the first reading we are told we must forgive each other for
“wrath and anger are hateful things”. The psalm reminds us that God shows us
mercy. The second reading tells us to live for Christ instead of ourselves. And
in the gospel Jesus tells parables about mercy and tells Peter that we must
forgive “seventy times seven” times.
Themes:- Boundless Forgiveness: In response to Peter,
Jesus showcases the idea that forgiveness knows no bounds. He highlights
the importance of unlimited forgiveness.
- Mercy Illustrated: The Parable of the
Unforgiving Servant draws a sharp contrast between the master’s mercy and
the servant’s lack of it. This vividly shows the significance of being
merciful to others.
- Debt and Divine
Mercy: The
passage employs the concept of debt metaphorically to emphasize God’s
immense forgiveness. It encourages us to contemplate this divine mercy.
- Mutual Forgiveness: The parable’s principle of
“forgive as you wish to be forgiven” highlights the link between our
readiness to forgive and God’s forgiveness towards us.
- Compassion vs. Judgment: The tension between
the master’s compassion and eventual judgment underscores that our
compassion towards others directly influences the mercy we receive from
God.
- Genuine
Forgiveness: Jesus concludes by stressing heartfelt
forgiveness. It goes beyond mere words and actions, demanding a true
internal transformation. Forgiveness and letting go require substantial
effort.
- Spiritual
Acts of Mercy: The
themes of “Forgive Injuries” and “Bear Wrongs Patiently” align well with
Matthew 18:21-35. Forgiving injuries connects with the parable’s message
of limitless forgiveness, while enduring wrongs resonates with compassion
and the balance between judgment and mercy.

enmity and overlooking faults.
- Responsorial Psalm – Psalm
103: The Lord is kind and merciful, slow to anger, and rich in
compassion.
- Bless the Lord for his
kindness and mercy. He pardons iniquities, heals ills, and redeems lives.
His compassion is vast, putting transgressions far away from those who
fear him.
- Second Reading – Romans
14:7-9: Whether living or dying, we belong to the Lord. Christ’s death
and resurrection affirm that he is Lord of both the living and the dead,
and our lives should reflect that.
- Gospel – Matthew
18:21-35: Jesus teaches about forgiveness using a parable of a servant
forgiven a huge debt but who then refuses to forgive a smaller debt. The
master, angry at this hypocrisy, punishes him. Jesus warns that we must
forgive others wholeheartedly.

The
readings for the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A focus on a conversion of
heart. We are encouraged to overcome sinfulness and to go beyond merely
following the letter of the law and to truly love. And we are to support each
other along the path to holiness and help each other overcome our sinfulness.

conflicts and promoting accountability. This theme highlights the
interconnectedness of believers and their role in supporting each other’s
spiritual journey.

underscores the theme of divine presence within a united community. This
highlights the significance of communal worship, prayer, and
decision-making.
- Conversion
of Heart:
The passage underscores the importance of addressing conflicts and sins
within the community. This theme resonates with the concept of conversion,
as it invites individuals to examine their hearts, admit wrongdoing, and
seek reconciliation.
- Sacrament
of Reconciliation:
Jesus’ instructions about approaching a brother who has sinned mirror the
principles of confession and reconciliation within the Church. This theme
reflects the sacramental aspect of seeking forgiveness and restoring one’s
relationship with God and the community.
- Overcoming
Hatred:
The passage promotes a process that seeks to mend relationships rather
than perpetuate hatred. This theme aligns with the idea of forgiving those
who have wronged us, promoting forgiveness as a way to overcome animosity.
- Social
Justice:
The principle of addressing wrongs within the community reflects the
broader concept of social justice. This theme emphasizes the importance of

The readings for the 22nd
Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A focus on our natural longing for God. In the first
reading Jeremiah realizes he cannot escape his burning desire for God. The
second reading tells us that we must allow ourselves to be transformed to be
one with Christ. And in the gospel Jesus explains that following him means
making sacrifices. Are we willing to do what it takes to be a disciple?
- Unwavering Resolve:
In the first reading, Jeremiah affirms his commitment to proclaiming God’s
message despite the challenges. This theme reflects the determination to
persevere in one’s calling, even in the face of adversity.
- Living Sacrifice:
The second reading encourages believers to present themselves as living
sacrifices to God. This theme emphasizes the idea of offering one’s whole
life in dedicated service to God.
- Suffering Messiah:
The gospel highlights Jesus’ prediction of His own suffering, death, and
resurrection. This theme emphasizes the sacrificial aspect of His mission.
- Human Ambitions vs. God’s Will: Jesus rebukes Peter for
opposing His path of suffering. This theme underscores the contrast
between human desires and God’s divine plan.
- Self-Denial and Cross-Bearing: Jesus talks about taking up the
cross to follow Him. This theme stresses the need for self-denial and a
willingness to embrace difficulties for the sake of Christ.
- Sacrificing Earthly Gain: Jesus mentions gaining the
world but losing one’s soul. This theme highlights the importance of
prioritizing eternal values over temporary worldly gains.
- Judgment and Reward: The passage discusses the Son of Man coming to
reward each person according to their deeds. This theme emphasizes
accountability and the ultimate consequences of one’s choices.

63: My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.
O God, I seek you with a
thirst like dry, lifeless earth. I’ve seen your power and glory; your kindness
is greater than life. My soul clings to you, and your right hand upholds me.- Second Reading – Romans
12:1-2: I urge you to offer yourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and
pleasing to God. Don’t conform to this age but renew your mind to discern
what is good and pleasing to God.
- Gospel – Matthew
16:21-27: Jesus begins to explain that He must suffer, be killed, and
resurrect. Peter rebukes Him, but Jesus says that Peter’s thinking like a
man, not God. He tells His followers to deny themselves, take up their
crosses, and follow Him. Gaining the world but losing one’s soul is

The readings for the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
remind us that God’s wisdom is not the same as our own wisdom. In the first
reading we hear that God has the power to remove the mighty from their
positions of leadership. In the second reading Paul tells us that we cannot
know the mind of God, as his wisdom and knowledge are beyond us. And in the
gospel s that Jesus is the Christ, and Jesus declares that this is a revelation
from the Father.
- Authority:
In this passage, Jesus engages His disciples in a conversation about His
identity. He asks them who people say He is and then asks them directly
who they believe Him to be. Through this dialogue, Jesus affirms His
authority as the Messiah, the Son of the living God.
- Faith:
Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God,
demonstrates a significant act of faith. This confession reveals Peter’s
recognition of Jesus’ divine nature and purpose.
- Prayer:
Jesus’ response to Peter’s confession highlights the role of divine
revelation in understanding spiritual truths. He acknowledges that Peter’s
confession was revealed to him by the Father in heaven, emphasizing the
importance of prayerful communion with God.
- Primacy
of Peter: Jesus’ declaration that Peter is the “rock” upon which He
will build His church and that He will give Peter the keys to the kingdom
of heaven signifies the primacy and leadership role assigned to Peter
within the community of believers.
- The
Church’s Formation: The passage alludes to the formation of the
Church, with Jesus affirming its future establishment based on Peter’s
confession and leadership. This signifies the beginning of the community
of believers that will grow from Christ’s teachings.
- Binding
and Loosing: The authority to “bind and loose” granted to Peter
symbolizes his role in guiding the Church by making decisions related to
doctrine and discipline, highlighting the organizational structure and
accountability within the early Church.

The
readings for the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A highlight that God wills
all of the world to be saved. In the first reading the Israelites learn that
foreigners who follow the decrees of the Lord also worship God. In the second
reading Paul speaks of his ministry to the Gentiles. And in the gospel Jesus
heals the daughter of the Canaanite woman.- Faith and
Persistence: The
Canaanite woman’s unwavering faith and persistent plea for help display
the importance of trust and perseverance in approaching Jesus. Despite
initial challenges and seemingly discouraging responses, she remains
steadfast in seeking Jesus’ intervention, leading to the manifestation of
her faith.
- Humility and
Teachability: The
encounter between Jesus and the Canaanite woman illustrates the
significance of humility and openness to learning from Him. The woman
acknowledges Jesus’ authority and power, and even in the face of what may
seem like a rebuff, she demonstrates a teachable heart, prompting Jesus to
acknowledge and praise her great faith.
- Being Inclusive: In this passage,
Jesus encounters a Canaanite woman who comes to Him seeking help for her
demon-possessed daughter. Despite cultural barriers and the initial
response of the disciples, Jesus demonstrates inclusivity by engaging with
her and addressing her needs.
- God’s Love for All
People: Jesus’
interaction with the Canaanite woman highlights God’s love for all people,
transcending cultural and ethnic boundaries. This encounter emphasizes
that God’s compassion extends to everyone, regardless of their background
or nationality.
- Jesus’ Mission to Restore
Us: The
encounter with the Canaanite woman underscores Jesus’ mission to restore
and heal humanity. By showing mercy and granting the woman’s request,
Jesus demonstrates His divine power to bring healing and deliverance to
those in need.

- First Reading – Isaiah
56:1, 6-7: The LORD calls for righteousness and justice. Foreigners
who love and serve Him, keeping the covenant and observing the Sabbath,
will find acceptance in His house—a house of prayer for all nations.
- Responsorial Psalm – Psalm
67: O God, let all the nations praise You!
- May God’s compassion and
blessings shine upon us, revealing His ways to all nations, leading to
salvation. Let all praise Him, rejoicing in His just rule and guidance.
- Second Reading – Romans
11:13-15, 29-32: Brothers and sisters, as the apostle to the Gentiles,
I glorify my ministry, making my race envious for salvation. Rejection
brings reconciliation, and God’s gifts and call endure. Mercy awaits all.
- Gospel – Matthew
15:21-28: A Canaanite woman pleads for Jesus’ help, seeking healing
for her possessed daughter. Though initially hesitant, Jesus praises her
