The readings for the 2nd Sunday of Advent Year B tell us of John the Baptist and his call to repentance. The first reading foretells the coming of John the Baptist. The psalm reminds us that the Lord is kind and just. The second reading encourages us to grow in holiness. And in the gospel, John the Baptist is baptizing people in preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ.

• Fulfillment of Prophecy: The passage begins by referencing the prophets Isaiah and Malachi, indicating that John the Baptist’s ministry is a fulfillment of prophecy. This theme underscores the continuity of God’s plan as revealed through the prophets.

• Preparation for the Messiah: John’s role as a forerunner for Christ highlights the theme of preparation for the coming of the Messiah. His preaching and baptizing in the wilderness were meant to prepare the hearts and minds of the people for Jesus.

• First Reading – Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11: Summary: God promises comfort and forgiveness to Jerusalem, declaring an end to her trials. A path is made for the Lord’s glory, as He comes with power and tenderness, like a caring shepherd.

• Responsorial Psalm – Psalm 85: Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation.

I listen for God’s words, for He promises peace to His people and salvation to the reverent. In our land, kindness and truth, justice and peace, shall unite under His blessings.

• Second Reading – 2 Peter 3:8-14: God’s time differs from ours; He’s patient, desiring all to repent. The Day of the Lord will bring transformation, urging us to live in holiness, awaiting a new righteous world.

• Gospel – Mark 1:1-8: Isaiah prophesied a messenger, John the Baptist, who emerged in the wilderness calling for repentance and baptism for sin forgiveness. He foretold of one greater than himself, unworthy even to untie His sandals, who would baptize with the Holy Spirit, not just water.

30.  Breath of God: On the one hand, the Holy Spirit was indeed both in 1R and G No. 7. Besides, not too many people would outrightly consider this song as exclusively for Pentecost. 
However, I don’t think that this song should be used indiscriminately for all the Sundays of Advent; cguro 2nd Sunday of Advent lang, kasi the Holy Spirit is indeed the love of God the Father for the Son, and of the Son for the Father, i.e., the love that transpires between them: When the Father sees the Son Whom He loves so much, Siya ay napadidighay, at ang nadidighay is the Holy Spirit. Thus, the Holy Spirit is the breath of God, the breath of love, “hininga ng pag-ibig.” (But take note that this does not happen in the time continuum, for the Godhead is not immersed in a time line.) Pero palayo na ito sa thread. My more important point is this: I believe that Breath of God does not deliver the appropriate message on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of Advent.

Solemnity of the Christ the King - Year A - November 26, 2023

The readings for the Solemnity of Christ the King Year A tell us that the kingship of Christ is one of a caring master who longs for us to live together in harmony in his kingdom. And in the gospel Jesus tells of the Judgement of the Nations, where those who served him in this life are separated from those who did not.
 
Some themes for this Sunday:

• Moral Responsibility: The criteria for judgment are based on acts of kindness or neglect, emphasizing the importance of moral and ethical conduct.

For the nth time, we are very sorry for not doing any updates last week here. We are so busy doing our part time jobs and school activities, hope you understand our situation dear brothers and sisters.
 
The readings for the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A are a call to do the work of the Kingdom of God with the gifts we have been given. The first reading sings the praises of the worthy wife who uses her talents to labor for good. The psalm tells us that those who follow the Lord are blessed. The second reading reminds us that we are children of light and goodness. And in the gospel Jesus tells the parable of the talents and praises the servants who used their resources wisely.
 
Themes:

• Stewardship: The passage emphasizes the importance of wisely managing resources or gifts given by God.

• Accountability: Each servant in the parable is held accountable for how they use their talents, highlighting the theme of personal responsibility.

• Risk and Growth: The servants who invest their talents are taking a risk, suggesting that spiritual growth often involves stepping out of one’s comfort zone.

• Work Ethic: The servants who double their talents work hard, suggesting the value of effort and diligence in spiritual life.

• Divine Judgment: The passage suggests that there will be a time of reckoning where each individual will be judged based on their actions.

• Inequality: The talents are distributed unevenly at the start, which may prompt considerations about the spiritual implications of inequality.

• Gospel – Matthew 25:14-30: A man going on a journey entrusts his servants with different amounts of money. Two servants invest and double their money, receiving praise and more responsibility from their master upon his return. The third servant hides his money and is chastised for his inaction, losing even what he had.

The readings for the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A tell of the abundance of the Kingdom of God. In the first reading we hear of the wonders of the Mountain of the Lord. The psalm tells of how God will care for us as a shepherd cares for his sheep. The second reading speaks of how God provides for us in abundance. And in the gospel Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a lavish wedding banquet.
 
Our songs theme must be centered on the following:
 

• Kingdom as a Feast: The parable describes the Kingdom of Heaven as a wedding banquet thrown by a king. This theme visualizes the divine realm as a celebratory and communal event.

• Invitation Rejected: Initially invited guests refuse the call, illustrating how some might reject or ignore divine invitations. This reflects the theme of human indifference or hostility to divine outreach.

• Open Invitation: The king extends the invitation to everyone, both good and bad. This emphasizes God’s inclusivity and the universal nature of the divine call.

• Gospel – Matthew 22:1-14 or 22:1-10: Jesus shares a parable about a king who hosts a wedding feast for his son. Initially, invited guests refuse the invitation. After facing consequences, the king invites all, but emphasizes the importance of being appropriately prepared. Few truly qualify.

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A - October 8, 2023

The readings for the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time for Year A focus on discipleship and our choice to follow Jesus or not. In the first reading Israel is warned that they must be faithful. The psalm begs God to return to the vineyard and care for it once again. The second reading encourages Christians to continue along the path that Jesus has shown us. And in the gospel Jesus tells the parable of the tenants, who rejected the landowner.
 
Theme:

• Parable of the Vineyard: The parable of the vineyard highlights the theme of God’s ownership and care over His creation. The vineyard symbolizes God’s kingdom, and the tenants represent humanity’s responsibility to steward it.

• Rejection of Messengers: The theme of rejecting God’s messengers is evident as the tenants mistreat and kill the servants sent by the owner. This reflects the historical pattern of disregarding God’s messages and messengers.

• Sending the Son: The owner’s decision to send his son underscores the theme of God’s ultimate outreach. Sending His Son, Jesus, reflects God’s desire to restore the relationship with humanity through a new covenant.

• Crucial Choice and Accountability: The theme of choice and accountability emerges as the tenants plot to seize the inheritance. Their decision leads to severe consequences, highlighting the importance of right choices and their consequences.

• Transfer of Responsibility: The transfer of responsibility from unfaithful tenants to others underscores the theme of God’s plan for redemption. This symbolizes the transition from the Jewish covenant to the inclusion of the Gentiles in God’s kingdom.

• Rejected Stone and Cornerstone: The reference to the stone rejected by the builders becoming the cornerstone illustrates the theme of God’s sovereignty. This emphasizes that God’s purposes will ultimately prevail, even if initially rejected by people.

• First Reading – Isaiah 5:1-7: “: A friend cultivates a vineyard with great care but gets wild grapes. He questions what more he could have done and decides to abandon the vineyard, letting it turn into a wasteland. This vineyard is an allegory for the house of Israel, where expected justice turns to chaos.

• Responsorial Psalm – Psalm 80: The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel.

God planted a vine from Egypt, cleared the land, and let it flourish. Then, its walls were broken, making it vulnerable to beasts and trespassers. A plea is made for divine care and restoration so that the vine, representing Israel, will thrive and its people will be saved.

• Second Reading – Philippians 4:6-9: Don’t worry, but instead bring your concerns to God through prayer. When you do, God’s peace will guard your heart and mind. Focus on things that are true, honorable, just, pure, and lovely. By following this guidance and emulating good examples, you’ll find peace.

• Gospel – Matthew 21:33-43: A landowner leases a vineyard but the tenants mistreat his servants and kill his son. When asked, the elders agree that the owner will evict these tenants and find new ones. Jesus warns that those who reject the cornerstone will lose the kingdom of God.

Baka matigil na po muna kami sa pag-a-update dito mga kapatid at di na kaya sa panahon pati sa budget at lumalaki na ang gastusin sa school. Anyway, maraming salamat pa rin po sa mga sumusuporta at nakasubaybay dito.
 
The readings for the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A focus on staying on the path of discipleship. When we do sin, we need to turn back to God. He will show us the way. It requires a humble heart to admit we have sinned and seek to get back on the right path. Christ is our model of obedience and humility.
 
Theme:

• Parable of Two Sons: The parable of the two sons highlights the theme of obedience and response to God’s call. The contrast between the two sons’ initial reactions illustrates the importance of genuine actions over empty promises.

READINGS:

• First reading – Ezekiel 18:25-28: The Lord responds to those who complain about fairness. God’s ways are just. A virtuous person who turns to iniquity will face consequences, but if they repent, their life will be preserved.

• Responsorial Psalm – Psalm 25:  Remember your mercies, O Lord.

The psalmist seeks God’s guidance and asks for instruction in truth. Remembering God’s compassion, the psalmist asks for mercy and guidance. The Lord, good and just, leads sinners and the humble in righteousness.

• Second reading – Philippians 2:1-11: Encouraged by Christ’s love, unity, and compassion, we’re urged to be of one mind, considering others above ourselves. Christ’s selflessness and humility serve as an example, leading to exaltation and acknowledgment of His lordship.

• Gospel – Matthew 21:28-32: Jesus presents a parable of two sons asked to work in a vineyard. One initially refuses but later obeys, while the other agrees but doesn’t go. The lesson highlights that actions, not words, reveal true obedience and righteousness, and tax collectors and prostitutes enter God’s kingdom due to genuine belief.

• Second reading – Romans 13:8-10: Owing love to one another fulfills the law. The commandments are summarized by loving your neighbor as yourself, for love does no evil and is the complete fulfillment of the law.

• Gospel – Matthew 18:15-20: If a brother sins, discuss it privately, then with witnesses if needed, and finally with the church. What is agreed on earth reflects in heaven, and where people gather in Jesus’s name, he is present.
